It all began with a silent wish—to visit a land far from my home. Then passion and further study choices led me to Glasgow. At first, it was like a dream; even the thought that I could go there was a big dream! I followed through with each process – some days fuelled by zeal, others by a ‘let's see how it goes’ curiosity. But now it seems fate absolutely has plans for me, and Glasgow is one of them😀
Do I have doubts regardless? Yes! Am I still anxious about taking this huge step? A louder Yes! I’m torn between the fears of “what-ifs” and the fears of a drastic change in life – from my warm, tropical world to a ‘cold and frequently wet’ Glasgow (so I’m told, which I can only imagine at the moment :))
And yeah, my mind buzzes with lots of questions about what living in Glasgow will be like:
Is the weather really that wet?
Will the food have a taste of home?
How long will it take me to navigate the subway?
Whoosh, these disrupt my thoughts – every single time!
Yet, the more I read and watch reels about Glasgow and the University, the more I want to experience the bewilderment myself. Having read about the beauty of the landscapes, the intriguing culture and the hospitality of the people, sounds fun! I look forward to walking through The Quadrangle, breathing in the antique scent of the Hunterian Museum, and beholding the Undercroft with my very eyes!
Oh, I look forward to amazing moments after all these days of preparations and anticipation. For all I know, biking through the city, making new friends and tasting Scottish cuisine, wouldn’t be that bad after all. Certainly not!
If you’re preparing to join the University of Glasgow community from over 3,700 miles away (or more) like me, you're not alone. I wish you all the best, and I hope we get to see Glasgow soon :).
P.S. Check out my constant reminder of Scotland: The West Highland Line! You might want to have one too.
