A selection of some of the great things happening this month

A very warm welcome to Glasgow! With all the fun and excitement of arrivals period, Welcome Week and the start of teaching, September is undoubtedly one of the exhilarating months in whole the academic year😀

Whilst we're sure that you'll not be short of things to do or get involved in, we've pulled together a few additional suggestions in our first What's On Guide of 2026/27.

At the University

International Student Welcome Programme (11 to 18 September, Various Locations)

If you're joining us from overseas then you'll definitely want to check out the International Student Welcome Programme. Brought to you by University's amazing International Student Support Team, you'll be able to take Pool lessons, go on walking tours, learn about Glasgow and Scotland and experience a Ceilidh!

UofG Welcome Week (11 to 18 September, Various Locations)

The University, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Glasgow University Sports Association (GUSA), and the many societies and sports clubs have been working hard over the summer to make sure that Welcome Week 2026 is the best one yet! Take a tour around the campus, meet reps from the societies and clubs at the Welcome Fair, enjoy taster sessions, quizzes, food and drink, Ceilidhs and much more!

UofG ResLife Residence Welcome Talks (14 to 18 September, Various Locations)

If you’re moving in to one of the University of Glasgow residences, you should have received an invitation to come along to a special Welcome Talk for your hall. The talks will provide you with essential information about your site, your site teams and how they’ll support you during your stay and information about accommodation policies. The talks are also a brilliant way to meet some of your fellow residents and learn about the events and social opportunities for you to get involved with at your site. See you there! 

Student 2 Student Essentials (14, 15 and 16 September, UofG Eco Hub)

Save waste and money by picking up free second-hand kitchenware, homeware, bedding and stationery at UofG GUEST's brilliant Student2Student Essentials event! 

Careers

FutureFest (23 and 24 September, Various Locations)

If you are interested in personal and professional development then the Uni's brilliant Careers team have got just the event for you! FutureFest is special one-day festival that features job fairs, skills and wellbeing-focused sessions and activities, one-on-one support, including CV reviews and personalised careers advice. There will also be lots of fun activities, prizes and freebies so not to be missed!

Culture

Glasgow's Music Mile Walking Tour (12, 19 and 26 September, Royal Concert Hall)

King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, famously the venue where a certain band called Oasis were first signed, is just one of the stops on this tour around Glasgow's finest musical establishments.

Glasgow Open Days Festival (17 to 20 September, Various)

Experience Glasgow’s rich cultural and civic history by touring some of city’s most significant buildings and spaces. With more than 150 sites, including factories, museums and theatres, all opening their doors to the public, free of charge, you’ll never get a better chance to explore your new hometown!

EPIC Comic Con Glasgow (26 and 27 September, SEC)

Comic Con returns to the city for 2026! If you're a fan of such things as gaming, films, sci-fi, anime and cosplay then you'll not want to miss out. With hundreds of exhibitors and loads of special guests there should be something for everyone.

Partick Farmers Market (12 and 26 September)

Looking for seasonal vegetables, fresh fruit, quality meats and delicious home baking? Partick Farmers market is the place for you! 

Glasgow’s West End Beer Festival (12 September, SWG3)

If you’re beer fan you’ll not want to miss the West End Beer Festival. Taking place in SWG3, next door to Maclay Residences, the festival will feature eight of Scotland’s best small independent breweries from across Scotland, DJs, food and much more! 

Music

Hilary Duff (13 September, OVO Hydro)

After a break of almost 20 years, multi-platinum award winning singer and actress Hilary Duff will be back Glasgow on her 'Lucky Me' tour.

Goldie Lookin Chain (18 September, The Garage)

Welsh rap legends Goldie Looking Chain, the men behind such hits as "Your Missus Is a Nutter" and "You Knows I Loves You", bring their Stairway To Newport tour to the Gargage on the 18th

RSNO: Season Opener: Mahler Six (19 September, Royal Concert Hall)

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra will be opening their new season in stye with the powerful Symphony No. 6 in A minor by the great Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Even better, as a student, you’ll also be eligible for a discount on your ticket!

Anastacia (20 September, SEC Armadillo)

Celebrating 25 years since she exploded into the charts with her debut album 'Not That Kind', pop legend Anastacia is back with her #NTK Tour.

Saint Etienne (20 September, Barrowland Ballroom)

Indie icons and Britpop legends, Saint Etienne will be rocking the Barrowland with their unique sound on the latest leg of their 'Gifted Amateurs' tour!

Sir Karl Jenkins Conducts The Armed Man (20 September, Royal Concert Hall)

Classical fans will be delighted to hear that the Sir Karl Jenkins will be in town to conduct his iconic composition The Armed Man.

Niall Horan (28 September, OVO Hydro)

One Direction's very own, Niall Horan, returns to the Hydro on his Dinner Party Live Tour.

The HU (29 September, O2 Academy)

If Mongolian Heavy Metal is more your scene then you definitely don't want to miss it's finest exponents, The Hu, and their Warrior Chant tour at the O2 Academy.

Sport

Scotland’s Strongest Man (19 to 26 September, SEC)

Did you know that Tom Stoltman, the World's Strongest Man in 2021, 2022 and 2024, hails from Scotland? Well, Tom and his brother Luke, a two time winner of Europe's Strongest Man, will be in attendance at this year's event!

Whatever you get up to in September, have a great time😀
