Do you want to learn more about the climate crisis?

Carbon Literacy Training

Residence Life is excited to share our new opportunity for students to become Carbon Literate. Carbon Literacy training enables you to not only understand the climate crisis causes and impacts but also equips you to take climate action individually and collectively.

What is Carbon Literacy?

Carbon Literacy is defined as “An awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, and the ability and motivation to reduce emissions, on an individual, community and organisational basis.”

The idea is to make climate action which can often feel difficult and distant, into something practicable and doable by individuals and communities. We want carbon literacy to be the norm and aspire for a low-carbon, climate resilient society built by and for everyone.

Our Plans

Residence Life will be running Carbon Literacy training for students living in halls in weeks 4 and 5 of Semester 1. To become Carbon Literate accredited you will need to attend both sessions as well as a small pre-workshop task and a post-training evidence form.  Our team will work with you to plan and carry-out your chosen climate actions. Your final evidence form will be sent to The Carbon Literacy Project and upon successful completion you will be awarded a certificate as well as an online badge for your LinkedIn profile and email signature. There will also be some fun ResLife goodies up for grabs!

The training is interactive and discussion-based covering six modules including the science and impacts of climate change; actions you can take to reduce emissions and Glasgow specific information. To be carbon literate is to be aware of the impact of activities on the climate, knowing how to reduce emissions and why this is needed.

For more information and to sign-up for the training keep an eye out on the UofG Living Events page!
