How to use your toaster safely!

With a good bit of toast being one of the most versatile and satisfying snacks around, we're sure that you are going to be making very good use of your toaster over the course of the year! Before you get started however, there are a few safety and operational issues to keep in mind:

❌ Don't operate the toaster near water or place in water to clean. Wipe down the external case using a damp cloth only.

❌ Don't use anywhere but the kitchen worktop.

❌ Don’t attempt to retrieve stuck food unless the toaster is switched off and never insert metallic objects.

❌ Don't leave the appliance unattended when toasting.

✅ As with any electrical appliance, it's always good practice to carry out a quick visual inspection before you get started just to check for any damage to the unit, the plug or cable.

✅ Toast only bread (including fruit breads etc) or items made especially for the toaster e.g. Pop Tarts.

✅ Make sure that your bread is the correct thickness for the toaster.

✅ Remove and clean the crumb tray at base of unit on a regular basis. A build up of dried crumbs can become a fire hazard so always best to keep that clean.

Operating the Toaster

Get set for the perfect piece of toast!

1️⃣ Select your chosen bread to toast, making sure that it will fit in the slots.

2️⃣ Adjust the toaster's control setting to select your desired level of toastiness. In general, the lower the number you select, the lighter toast you'll get. For example, selecting setting 1 or 2 will produce a lighter toast whilst going up to 5 or 6 will get you something darker and crispier. It's always worth doing a bit of experimenting to find the right setting for you.

3️⃣ Press the lever down to commence toasting.

4️⃣ Your toast should pop up automatically when the process is complete but, if you think that your bread has already reached the optimum level of toastiness, just press the stop/cancel button to pop it up manually.

5️⃣Once you're happy with your toast, unplug the toaster from the socket in the wall and it'll be good to go for next time.

Some of the toasters in residences may come with slightly varying features like defrost or reheat settings so, for more information on the model that is in your flat, just speak to your site team.

Happy Toasting!
