A selection of some of the great things happening this month

The nights may be drawing in and the temperature starting to drop but that's ok as Glasgow has plenty of activities and events to keep you educated, entertained and informed throughout the rest of Autumn!

At the University

UofGFood Festival (James McCune Smith Learning Hub Atrium, 12 November 2024)

If you’re a big foodie, you’ll not want to miss UofGFood’s first ever Food Festival! On the day, you’ll not only be able to sample some of the delicious range of food and drinks available on campus, including pizzas, coffees, cakes and much more, you’ll also be able to learn more about where the food comes from and what sustainable, healthy and inclusive choices are available😋

Choral Contemplations II (University Memorial Chapel, 12 November 2024)

If you’re looking for a bit of calm and reflection this month, head along to the University chapel and hear the outstanding Chapel Choir explore the repertoire of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir during the First World War.

UofG Choral Society - Messiah (Bute Hall, 30 November 2024)

Join the University Choral Society and Chapel Choir and players from the Dunedin Consort as they perform George Frideric Handel's Baroque masterpiece and mark Professor John Butt's retiral from the University. 

Culture

Wine & Wonders: Horror at the Mitchell (Mitchell Library, 1 November 2024)

Did you know that the Mitchell Library has a resident ghost called Septimus? If you fancy potentially meeting him, you can join this special Halloween event where you can tour the library, view their collection of horror themed treasures and hear from students at the Uni's Centre for Fantasy and the Fantastical about their work in the horror genre👻

GlasGLOW (Botanic Gardens, 25 October - 10 November 2024)

See the beautiful Botanic Gardens as you’ve never seen them before as GlasGLOW returns for the seventh year! This year’s theme is Trick or Treat so expect the wonderful sound and light displays to have a distinctly spooky edge!

Strathclyde Park Firework Display (Strathclyde Country Park, 5 November 2024)

Remember, Remember the 5th of November! This year, the main Bonfire Night event for west of Scotland will be held at Strathclyde Park, near Motherwell. Alongside the bonfire, there going to be a huge firework display, food stalls and live music so definitely worth the trip! 

Book Week Scotland (Multiple venues, 18-24 November 2024)

Book Week Scotland is back for the thirteenth year! If you love reading and literature, you’ll be sure to find an event or activity that appeals to you so check out the programme and get involved.

MoRun for Movember (Glasgow Green, 24 November 2024)

Feeling fit? Why not help support Movember by taking on a 5k MoRun, 10k MoRun or a Half Marathon!

Mary's Meals Christmas Market (Royal Concert Hall, 30 November - 1 December 2024)

The Mary's Meals Christmas Market is back by popular demand! There will be lots of stalls where you can pick up a special gift for a friend or family member so head along and help support the team and their amazing work feeding some of the world's poorest communities.

Glasgow Winterfest (George Square, 9 November 2024 - 5 January 2025)

Get in to the festive spirit as Glasgow's George Square is transformed into a winter wonderland with lights, ice skating, fairground rides, food and artisan gift stalls🎄

Glasgow Christmas Markets (George Square and St.Enoch Square, 9/18 November 2024 - 5 January 2025)

Over 50 stalls featuring food and drinks from around the world, arts and crafts, jewellery and much more. There’s also a bar, live music, and a Santa’s train🎅🏻

Peter Pan Panto (Kings Theatre, 23 November 2024 - 5 January 2025)

Get along and experience the ‘peculiarly British’ Christmas tradition that is Pantomime with Peter Pan at the Kings. It's part theatre, part musical, part slapstick comedy so you’ve got to experience it to believe it!

Ashton Lane Winter Wonderland (Ashton Lane, 24 November 2024)

Despite having a busy schedule in the run up to Christmas, Santa has squeezed in some time for a visit to Ashton Lane with his reindeer! As well as having the opportunity to meet the man himself, you’ll also be able to enjoy some festive food and drink from the pop-up bars, pick up a present or two from the Festive market and take in some of the Christmas choirs. 

Bach's Christmas Oratorio (City Halls, 29 November 2024)

The Scottish Chamber Orchestra take on one of Bach's greatest masterpieces, the Christmas Oratorio. Joyful, uplifting and perfect for the season!

Comedy

Milton Jones (Pavilion Theatre, 9 November)

You’ve seen him on Mock the Week and Live at the Apollo, now see the Master of the one-liner in person at the Pavilion. Laughs guaranteed!

John Cooper Clarke (Pavilion Theatre, 19 November)

The ‘Godfather of Punk Poetry” and cult hero stops by to share his reflections on 50 Years In Showbiz. There will be poetry, chat and a lot of laughs.

Music 

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds (OVO Hydro, 3 November)

The Australian Rock Icon and his band are back in town touring their new album Wild God.

Interpol (Royal Concert Hall, 4 November)

New York rockers Interpol are celebrating the 20th anniversary of their hit album, Antics, by performing the full album live.

Crash Test Dummies (Òran Mór, 5 November)

The band behind ‘Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm’, one of the biggest hits of the 90’s, will be bringing their unique brand of alternative rock to Òran Mór.

Deep Purple (OVO Hydro, 10 November)

Heavy Metal pioneers and Rock & Roll Hall of Famers, Deep Purple are making their way round Europe on their 1 More Time Tour and will be stopping in Glasgow on the 10th!

Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty from Sir Mark Elder and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra (City Hall, 14 November)

The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra take on Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty as part of their Thursday Night Series. 

Seasick Steve (O2 Academy, 17 November)

Accompanied by his Three-String Trance Wonder guitar and Mississippi Drum Machine, Steve will be playing tracks from his new album A Trip A Stumble A Fall Down on Your Knees.

The Corrs (OVO Hydro, 17 November)

Ireland's “first family of music” are bringing their unique brand of Celtic-pop rock back to Glasgow on the 17th of the month. They’ll also be supported by Natalie Imbruglia so it’s shaping up to be a fantastic evening!

Nile Rogers & Chic (Barrowlands, 27 November)

We’ve got a second Rock & Roll Hall of Famer in town this month in the shape of Nile Rogers, the man behind such hits as Le Freak, Everybody Dance and Good Times. An absolute must for all funk and disco fans!
