A selection of some of the great things happening this month

Your monthly What's On guides are back for 2026! As always, there is lots to see and do in the city so here are a few highlights for your consideration.

At the University

CinemARC - I Swear (Advanced Research Centre [ARC], 22 January)

Head over to the ARC for special screening of the critically acclaimed 2025 hit, I Swear. The screening will be accompanied by a fascinating panel discussion featuring the University's top linguists on the subject of swearing and its impact on our brains, language and culture!

Lunchtime Concert: Lea Shaw and José Javier Ucendo Malo (University Concert Hall, 29 January)

A wonderful free concert featuring rising stars, mezzo-soprano Lea Shaw and pianist José Javier Ucendo Malo

Historic Tours of the University (Main Campus, Multiple Dates)

Join one of the Student Representative Council's tours and take a guided trip around our historic University.

Tours of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery (The Hunterian, Multiple Dates)

Take the opportunity of a guided tour around one of Scotland’s oldest public museums - the University’s very own Hunterian! Amongst the collections, you’ll find Roman artifacts, artwork by Rubens, Rembrandt and James McNeill Whistler, not to mention Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s House!

Burns Night 2026

On the 25th January, Scotland will come together for Burns Night and celebrate the life and work of our National Bard, Robert Burns. There will be events galore including ceilidhs, Burns suppers and live music so check out our How will you be celebrating Burns Night? article for a few local highlights.

Culture

Celtic Connections (Various Locations, 15 January to 1 February)

Glasgow's annual celebration of Celtic music and culture returns for 2026 with a brilliant range of performances and events. Amongst the highlights this year include Country Music legend Emmylou Harris appearing at the Emirates and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra taking on Górecki's 'Symphony of Sorrows'

Kelvingrove Organ Recital (Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, Multiple Dates)

After a spot of maintenance, the magnificent Kelvingrove Organ is back and ready to return for its popular daily recital series.

Glasgow Street Art Walking Tour (Various Locations, Multiple Dates)

Have you noticed Glasgow's Street Art? Whether it's the tenement murals of legendary Scottish comedian Billy Connolly or  ‘The World’s Most Economical Taxi’, you're never far from a colourful and entertaining piece of public art. Join the tour and see some of the hidden gems.

Still Glasgow (Gallery of Modern Art, 9 November 2025 to 13 June 2027)

Head along to the Gallery of Modern Art (GoMA ) for this special showcase of photographs of Glasgow taken by a number of great artists including Alasdair Gray, Oscar Marzaroli, and Linda McCartney.

Music

Led Zeppelin: Fulldome Experience (Glasgow Science Centre, 9 and 30 January)

Robert Plant, Jimmy Page and Co may no longer be touring but fans of Led Zeppelin can experience the classic rock band as never before as their best loved hits are fused with 360 visuals and abstract art to create a very unique soundscape.

Nathan Evans & Saint PHNX (Edmiston House, 17 January)

Scottish stars Nathan Evans and Saint PHNX recently joined forces to create a new folk/pop band and they'll be launching their first album 'Angels Share' with a special show on the 17th,

All Time Low (OVO Hydro, 20 January)

The record breaking American rockers bring their 'Everyone's Talking' tour to the Hydro on the 20th.

Biffy Clyro (OVO Hydro, 21 January)

'Mon the Biff! Scotland's top rockers make a triumphant return to Glasgow on their 'Futique' tour.

Justin Hawkins Rides Again... Again (Edmiston House, 23 January)

Join The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins for an evening of stories, musical chat and good few laughs!

Jason Derulo (OVO Hydro, 29 January)

Whatcha say? American superstar Jason Derulo is in town on the latest leg of his 'Last Dance' word tour.
