A selection of some of the great things happening this month

Your monthly What's On guides are back for 2025 with a bumper February edition! As always, there is lots to see and do in the city so here are a few highlights for your consideration.

At the University

UofG Big Day Out - Partick Thistle v Greenock Morton (Firhill Stadium, 1 February)

One for the football fans amongst us! Join fellow UofG students and staff members at Firhill to see local favourites Partick Thistle take on Greenock Morton.

Whistler's Pastels (The Hunterian, runs until 25 March 2025)

Following the recent Whistler Pastels Project, which examined James McNeill Whistler’s (1834–1903) use of pastels, the team have put some of the works on display in this special showcase exhibition.

Tours of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery (The Hunterian, runs until 20 April 2025)

Take the opportunity of a guided tour around one of Scotland’s oldest public museums - the University’s very own Hunterian! Amongst the collections, you’ll find Roman artifacts, artwork by Rubens, Rembrandt and the aforementioned James McNeill Whistler, not to mention Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s House!

Choral Contemplations V: The Music of Creation (University Memorial Chapel, 11 February)

The Chapel Choir are back with a wonderful programme inspired by the natural world. They'll also be marking the 80th birthday of composer Sir John Rutter with a performance of his unaccompanied anthem ‘A Hymn to the Creator of Light’.

Culture

Celtic Connections (Various Locations, 1 & 2 February)

Glasgow's annual celebration of Celtic music and culture will be drawing to a close at the start of February but there will still be lots going on in the final weekend including a gig by Scottish Indie legends the Bluebells, the Transatlantic Sessions and the final of the BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2025.

Chinese New Year Gala (Royal Concert Hall, 4 February)

Welcome in the Year of the Snake with a special night of traditional Chinese dance, music, fashion comedy and magic!

VIP Record Fair (Bellahouston Leisure Centre, 22 February)

Promising, "the largest selection of CDs, records, DVD’s and memorabilia ever put up for sale in Scotland," this fair will be a must for all music fans! The Leisure Centre is also located next to the delightful Bellahouston Park so it's definitely worth going for a walkabout after you've sorted out the tunes!

Glasgow City and Clyde Bridges Bike Tour (Drygate Brewery, various dates until 9 April)

Take in some of the most important and significant sights in Glasgow on two wheels with this unique tour. Starting at the Drygate Brewery (just 2 mins away from Havannah House!) you'll encounter such places as the People's Palace and Winter Gardens, The Clyde Arc, SEC Armadillo, the Uni and the Forth & Clyde Canal before finishing up back at the Necropolis and Glasgow Cathedral.

Comedy

Al Murray (The Pavillion, 8 February)

The Pub Landlord is back and he's bringing his Guv Island tour to the Pavilion.

Ricky Gervais (SEC Armadillo, 18 & 19 February)

One of the biggest names in comedy returns to the city for a two night stint at the Armadillo.

Film

National Astronomy Week (Glasgow Science Centre, 1 to 9 February)

As part of National Astronomy Week, Glasgow Science Centre will be hosting a series of spectacular films that will let you experience the Universe and stars as never before.

Glasgow Film Festival (Various venues, 28 February to 9 March 2025)

Scotland's biggest film festival is back for 2025 with 16 World and European premieres, 64 UK premieres, and 11 Scottish premieres! There will also be screenings of classic movies, Q&A events with top industry figures and masterclasses for aspiring film makers.

Charity

Winter Warmer Run (Glasgow Green, 2 February)

Are you feeling fit and fresh this February? Why not help support homelessness charity Shelter by taking on a 5k, 10k or a Half Marathon!

Music

James Bay (O2 Academy, 1 February)

The Brit Award winner brings his new 'Changes All The Time' LP to the city.

Craig David (SEC Armadillo, 4 February)

Re-e-wind when the crowd say...Noughties R&B and Garage star Craig David is back in town with his 'Commitment Tour'.

Tremonti (SWG3, 6 February)

Mark Tremonti, lead guitarist of American rock icons Creed, brings his heavy metal band to the West End.

Cyndi Lauper (OVO Hydro, 8 February)

Bone fide pop legend Cyndi Lauper returns to the Glasgow for what could be the final time with her 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Farewell Tour'

The E.L.O Show (The Pavillion, 12 February)

Check out the ‘World’s Greatest tribute’ to Jeff Lynne and his iconic band the Electric Light Orchestra (E.L.O). You’ll hear all the hits like Mr Blue Sky, Evil Woman and Don’t Bring Me Down alongside light and laser shows and the E.L.O spaceship!

James Blunt (OVO Hydro, 14 February)

Nowadays, he may be almost as well known for his patter on Twitter/X as he is for his music but 20 years ago his debut album 'Back to Bedlam' album was very much top of the pops. To celebrate the anniversary, Blunty McBluntface, as he almost became known, will be at the Hydro to play the album in its entirety.

Candlelight: Tribute to Elvis (Òran Mór, 20 February)

Hear some of The King's best loved hits including Burning Love and Blue Suede played in the candlelit surroundings of Òran Mór.

Oliver Anthony (O2 Academy, 21 February)

The man behind the 2023 breakout single "Rich Men North of Richmond” brings his unique brand of American country-folk to the O2.

Mahler Nine (Royal Concert Hall, 22 February)

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) take on one of Mahler's greatest masterpieces, the powerful, Ninth Symphony.
