Welcome to Dumfries Residences – Dumfries Hall, Brooke House and Laurieknowe Hall

The Management and ResLife Team are delighted that the Dumfries Residences will be your University of Glasgow home next semester and we look forward to welcoming you. In order to help you get off to a good start, we have compiled some information to ensure your arrival goes as smoothly as possible.

Arrival/ E-Induction

Prior to your arrival, please complete your online E-induction. In E-induction you’ll find out about many aspects of residence life including fire safety and student welfare. You’ll also be able to print your Arrival Pass which you can use when checking in.

It is essential that you advise us of your expected arrival date and time by emailing us at dumfries-accommodation@glasgow.ac.uk in order that we make the appropriate arrangements for you.

The Student Apartment office in Glasgow will be open for reduced hours over the winter break with normal hours of 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, resuming from Wednesday 03 January. You can move into Dumfries Residences from noon on Thursday 4th January, which is the date listed in your contract. Previous residents are checking out before your contract begins and cleaning staff will have to enter afterwards to clean your flat and make it ready.

There will be a bedding pack in your room with a duvet, pillow, duvet cover, pillowcase and under sheet. However, we do not provide towels.

Residence Life

The Residence Life Team are current University of Glasgow staff and students who live on site and are here to provide out of office hours support. They were all new to the University and residence life at one point too and have lots of advice and experience to share with you.

The on-call Residence Assistant will be happy to give you help with

  • Settling into university life and independent living
  • Orientation of your residence and the surrounding area
  • First Aid, Mental Health First Aid - please remember to register with a local GP when you arrive
  • Need someone to talk to or feeling homesick
  • Course worries, exam stress, managing a study/work/life balance
  • Noisy neighbours, getting along with flatmates
  • Fire safety and responding to fire alarm activations
  • Arranging emergency repairs out of hours

The Residence Life Team also organise regular social events where you can meet other residents, try new things, and experience what Dumfries has to offer. The ResLife Team want you to make the residence your own and the team are always keen to know your ideas on what type of activities you would like to be included in the events calendar.

They are on duty from 6pm to 8am Monday to Friday and 24 hours at weekends.
