Make your packing that little bit easier by donating your unwanted clothes, DVDs, CDs, games and books to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and help support their life-saving research into the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cardiovascular disease.
For over a decade, the University has been working with the BHF to provide donation bags and collections points in our residences and every year our students have given generously. The UofG partnership contribution in 2023/2024 was 501 bags, which diverted over 4,000kg from landfill and equated to £7,515 for the Heart Foundation.
Every contribution is welcome as the BHF estimates that a single bag of donations from a student could be worth as much as £15 to them. Indeed, the BHF calculates that;
- £18 could support one of our early career scientists to conduct one hour of research. BHF currently funds around 370 early career scientists conducting research across the UK.
- £85 is how much it costs to support a PhD student for just one day. BHF funds around 288 PhD students.
- £700 could help to pay for everything a BHF professor needs to run their lab for a day. This includes staff costs, equipment, lab renovations, and extra funds for unusual or untested work that could be the first steps towards new discoveries.
If you would like to leave a donation please bag it up and deposit it in one of the collection points which are located at the following locations:
