Pre-Arrival

As the accommodation is let all year round it is not always possible to show prospective residents a typical room. During certain times we can take people round the common areas so contact the Lister management team on 0141 330 6182 to arrange a suitable time.

Yes, if accommodation is available. Please email Accommodation Services at accom@glasgow.ac.uk to register your interest and check availability.

Students arriving before the start of the accommodation contract cannot be guaranteed accommodation and you may be required to find alternative accommodation before the start date of the contract.

Keys are usually collected directly from Lister House office, but please read the separate ‘arrival letter’ for further information as we are only open part time and do need to know your date and time of arrival in advance

Yes we have two car parks. Please provide the office with your car details.

Basic crockery, cutlery, utensils, pots and pans are provided at Lister House. Bedding, Bed Lined and Towels are not provided. Check out our What to Bring to Uni guide for more info.

Glasgow University Environmental Sustainability Team (GUEST) run initiatives to reduce waste through ‘passing on’ essentials between students and may be able to help you get what you need!

If you would like to pre-order some of these items before you come to Glasgow we have teamed up with UniKitOut to help you order all your bedroom, bathroom and kitchen essentials and have them waiting for you when you arrive. There is a garage for bikes; a key is available on request. Bikes are not permitted inside the building.

Yes, but it must be fitted with a correctly rated fuse, correctly wired plug and a cable in good order. Students must obtain their own TV license. See www.tvlicensing.co.uk for more details.

Students will need to provide their own bedding, bed linen and towels.

If buying bed linen please check that sizes are either UK single or UK double as sometimes sizes will vary according to manufacturer.

Location and Travel

Lister House is approx 25 mins walk to the main campus, a 40mins walk to St Andrew’s Building, 30mins walk to the Vet School and a 10mins walk to Gartnavel Hospital.

There is a bus stop around 8 minutes walk from Lister House where you can travel part route to the main campus. One provider of this route is First Bus.

If you are under-22 you may also be eligible for free bus travel

A taxi will cost you approximately £30. If you wish to use public transport it is possible to get a bus from Partick Bus Station to take you to the Airport.


Please allow yourself plenty of time to get to the Airport if you choose to use this service. Alternatively there is an airport shuttle bus that will take you directly to the airport from Buchanan Bus Station every 15 – 20 minutes, a single ticket costs £10 and an open return lasting 28 days is £16.

There are several doctors' surgeries near Lister House and there is also a medical centre located on the Main Campus.

Lister House is located in the heart of the upmarket Kirklee area and wherever you go, you’ll never be far from art venues, museums, parks, bars, pubs restaurants, shops and much more!

Reception

The Lister House office is open only part time. The office is usually open between 9.30am- 12noon Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please check for any changes or updates left on the office door or via email.

Our main office, the Student Apartments Office, is open Monday– Friday 8:00– 17:00. It is located on Campus near The Library and The Fraser Building at 89 Gibson Street.

During normal office hours, Monday- Friday 9am- 5pm, please phone the Student Apartments’ office on 0141 330 6182.

Outside office hours you can contact the Residence Life Assistants on 07816364290 during the evening and over the weekend. Security staff are based at the Gatehouse on University Avenue 24 hours every day and can be contacted on 0141 330 4282.

There is a Residence Life Assistant available from 18:00 to 8:00 on weekdays and during the weekend from 18:00 on Friday to 8:00 on the Monday morning. They can be contacted on 07816364290.

You can also contact security at the Gatehouse on University Avenue out of office hours if there is an urgent problem — their number is 0141 330 4282.

Yes, Lister House has it's own laundry facilities.

My Room

In Lister House all the rooms have single beds. There are double beds in the one and three bed flats.

You will receive your full room and address details upon checking in.

Upon arrival, you must complete your room inventory (which will be sent to your email address).

There will be two flat and room inspections carried out during your stay and you will be provided with further information on this when you arrive.

Yes, Wi-Fi provided by Glide is available in all rooms and flats within Lister House. You can find out how to get connected with our UofGLiving Quick Start Guide.

Any issues with the internet should be raised with Glide directly. You can report your issues directly, 24 hours a day 7 days a week, by contacting;

No, your contract includes holiday periods, you do not have to remove your belongings.

Yes, outside of arrivals weekend and Freshers Week, you are able to invite a friend to stay overnight in your bedroom for a maximum of three nights, per calendar month, free of charge. 

Please refer to the Accommodation Services Overnight Guest policy and procedure for more info. 

Please note that overnight guests are not permitted during Freshers' Week and Arrivals Weekend.

Replacement key(s) can be issued via the office. Current charges are from £25 per key. Please take great care not to label your key or keep it with your address details.

Each room/flat has a small mail box located at the bottom of the staircase at each side of the building.

Mail is delivered to the west wing front hall. Alternatively, you can choose a drop off address near campus for parcels.

Once you leave Lister House your mail will be returned to sender.

All repairs must be reported to the office and staff will take appropriate action. 

In an emergency outside of office hours you should contact the duty Residence Life Assistant who will call the relevant member of the maintenance team. This is in an extreme emergency only.

If the repair is non-urgent and the office is closed please complete an on-line repair form or email lister@glasgow.ac.uk.

Your own bedroom/flat in a Lister House.

All residents in Lister are responsible for making a constructive effort to keep their accommodation clean and tidy by taking the rubbish and recycling out and doing their own dishes.

University of Glasgow has arranged contents insurance cover for you with Endsleigh, the number 1 student insurance provider.

Input your policy number HH1357 at www.endsleigh.co.uk to check your policy details. Here you will find more information on how to check what is covered, some key exclusions and limitations, how to check your policy excess, how to extend and personalise your cover and most importantly, how to make a claim.

Room Transfer forms will be available from 9am on the Monday of Freshers Week. The transfer form will be available on your accommodation account, this is the on- line portal you used when creating your application. You will need your user name and password in order to log on.

It may be possible to extend over the summer months, but places are limited. You will be asked to complete a form in third term indicating that you wish to extend. Please note that you may be required to move flat.

My Kitchen

All the kitchens at Lister House are well-equipped with: cooker; fridge-freezer; microwave; kettle; toaster; breakfast bar; and individual shelf space.

Yes, basic crockery, cutlery, pots and cooking utensils are supplied. We also supply an iron, ironing board, vacuum cleaner, brush, shovel, mop and bucket.

In our East carpark we host a recycling area. There’s a glass recycling bin, a food waste bin and a pa- per/plastic bottle/can recycling bins. There is also a British Heart Foundation charity bin for collecting do- nated items for their shops. These are located beside our general refuse bins.

Residents are encouraged to recycle as much as possible but are asked empty internal bins into main bins daily and not store items in their kitchens/rooms.

Accommodation Fees

All of your accommodation fees are paid through your MyCampus account. 

The main options for paying your accommodation fees are Direct DebitMonthly Payment Plan or via a single one-off payment.

Just remember to make arrangements to set up your payment plan immediately to ensure that you are on time for the first instalment that is due in October.

Yes, all heating, hot water and electricity, and internet is included in your rent.
